2022 Tech Job Trends: What to Expect
Article by JobTerix IN DESIGN & ILLUSTRATION - 7/5/2022
As global workplaces continually evolve, so does the tech industry. This advancement has been sped up by the global Covid-19 pandemic, which especially affected the world of technology. The changes that were already taking place accelerated, leaving many caught behind. Staying up to date with the latest trends in the technology industry will help you stay in touch and relevant, whether you’re actively searching for a job or just want to be in the know.
Diverse Gig Economy
One significant trend that has grown over time is the gig economy and self-employment. This is popular among many IT professionals, and instead of searching for traditional, pentioned jobs, they’ll work in the gig economy on a project-by-project basis.
On the business side, this is useful as many fields require project-based or contract work rather than traditional employees.
For tech professionals taking this route, the draw is increased job flexibility in terms of hours, and ability to set their own pay.
Artificial Intelligence
Although AI is still in its early stages, it significantly affects how we live, work and play. Artificial intelligence is already able to perform excellently in speech and image recognition, navigation apps, smartphone personal assistance, as well as ride-sharing apps.
Looking forward, AI will save businesses, especially those in technology, time and money by removing repetitive tasks and making them more efficient. Keep an eye on AI gradually replacing small aspects of traditional jobs.
Improved Perks for Employees
Coming off of a period of high employee turnover and dissatisfaction, tech companies in 2022 will go to great lengths to both hire the highest quality talent possible, and make sure they’re happy staying with the company. This means higher pay packages, increased benefits, and more medical and mental health support.
Going forward, we’ll see employers prioritize their employees feeling at ease and supported while working with them. This also extends to flexible hours, creating increased autonomy for team members.
Transparency and Accountability
While tech products can deliver exceptional quality and serve their customers well, this doesn’t mean that their producers are free of the unintended consequences. In some cases, technology, and specifically AI, has been shown to be damaging, take for instance racially biased facial recognition technology.
In 2022, people are looking for companies that acknowledge tech’s pitfalls and transparently work to improve them. Potential employees want to join a team that prioritizes transparency and accountability, and this want will likely only grow as technology evolves.
Working remotely
Already beginning to grow in popularity before the pandemic, working from home was necessary during the Covid-19 pandemic and is likely here to stay. We’ve seen debates about going back to the office, and while some people are excited about this, working from home is largely here to stay for huge swaths of the tech industry.
And…it makes sense. Remote workers can be just as productive, if not more, than they are in the office. Working remotely also enables organizations to find the highest quality talent, even if they don’t live in the city the company is based in.
One of our biggest pieces of advice at JobTerix to those looking for tech jobs is to stay relevant. This means keeping up to date with the latest tech job trends – you never know when they might come in handy in an interview.
